Selection
Attentions paid when choosing a handle:
A, The handle base is made of the same material with the handle or the engineering plastic with the mechanical property not inferior to polyformaldehyde.
B, The square pintle is made from Q235 cold-drawn square steel in GB/T905.
C, The surface sprayed coat is polyester powder paint.
D, The exposed surface of the handle, once installed, is free from scratches, sand holes or pits.
E, The sprayed coat has homogeneous and uniform color and is free from defects of bubbles, sag, falling off and paint pileup, etc.
F, The galvanized layer is homogeneous and free from defects of yellowy, base exposed. The oxidized film should have homogeneous and uniform color without scorching.
3. PVC door and window driver
(1) Buildup and classification
PVC door and window driver is a device that locks the window or door at multiple points by turning the handle and mainly comprised of lock bar, gear, rack, moving rod, static rod and lock block. Depending on different types of windows and doors, it could be classified into sliding and casement door and window drivers. As for casement windows, it is further divided into exterior and interior casement drivers based on different opening modes, Generally, the interior casement driver is used together with angle hinges. The driver is illustrated in figure 1-21
- Selection
Follow JG/T 126-2000 when fabrication or purchasing drivers. Pay attentions to following points related to the material specification and appearance.
A, The moving rod and static rod are made from materials with the mechanical property not inferior to Q235 steel band in GB/T 11253 carbon structural steel. The lock bar is made from materials with the mechanical property not inferior to Q235 in GB/T905. The gear is made from materials with the mechanical property not inferior to 08F in GB/T702.
B, The driver¡¯s surface should be smooth, bright and free from burrs or rags. The galvanized layer is homogeneous and free from defects of yellowy, base exposed or scorched.
C, Flat, straight and no torsion. When at free status, the sickle curvature of the static and moving rods is no greater than 0.5mm/m.
D, The rivet connection is sturdy and reliable. After riveting, the moving rod moves flexibly without any obstruction. The lock bar is riveted suitably. The single lock bar is not damaged, does not deform or becomes loose under a static pull of 200N along the lock bar¡¯s axis or a static pull of 800N perpendicular with the axis of the lock bar and block.
II Main hardware for sliding windows
Yatai sliding series profiles are available in a great variety and different dimensions. Anyhow, the hardware commonly used in actual fabrication mainly includes window and door pulley, semi-circle lock, buffer block, windbreaking block and sliding window and door driver. Choose the accessory with different specification according to different profiles.
1, Pulley
(1) Function
Pulley¡¯s function: support the weight of window or door sash on the sliding window or door and transfer the weight to the frame. Move the window or door sash along the frame¡¯s rail through its rolling.
- Buidup and classification
The pulley is mainly composed of rack, pulley body and spindle. (as shown in figure 1-22). The pulley has smooth or concave surface. When matching with the aluminum sliding rail, the pulley of concave surface should match with the aluminum sliding rail convex surface to ensure a smooth sliding and boost the lifespan.
- Selection
Follow JG/T129-2000 when purchasing the pulley. Pay attentions to following points related to the material specification and appearance.
A, Each part of the pulley is made from materials not inferior to the trade standards on pulley materials.
B, The punched rack does not deform on incline, has homogenous galvanized layer and is free from defects of exposed base, yellowy, scorched. The die-cast rack is free from burrs, casting fins, unevenness, cracks, sand holes, etc.
C, The pulley body¡¯s exterior surface is smooth, does not have mold matching trace and is free from defects of bubbles, cracks, shrinkage cavity and unevenness.
D, The pulley spindle is aligned with two ends of the rack.
E, All dimensions and fit clearance are within the stipulated scope.
F, Pay special attention that the total weight of the sliding door and window sashes must be within the pulley¡¯s loading capacity. The pulley¡¯s load mainly includes frame of the sliding door and window, glazing bead, steel reinforcement and glass, Please refer to the specification and qualification certificate for the pulley¡¯s loading capacity. The pulley¡¯s loading capacity is generally calculated for two pulleys.
Pay attention to matching dimensions between the selected pulley with the mounting groove of the pulley when installing the pulley on sliding windows. Select the pulley¡¯s specification and dimension and determine the pulley¡¯s type in accordance with the overlap of windows and doors¡¯ frames and sashes.
2, Sliding window¡¯s semi-circle lock
(1) Function and buildup
A semi-circle lock is a device that locks two sashes of the sliding window or door that is closed indoors by a rotary handle. It is mainly composed of a strike plate, seat and hook.
(2) Selection
Follow JG/T130-2000 when purchasing a semi-circle lock, Pay attention to the following points:
A, The strike plate, seat and hook must comply with the regulations on materials in trade standards.
B, The semi-circle lock has smooth surface and is free from cast defects.
C, The sprayed surface has homogeneous and uniform color and is free from defects of bubbles, sag, falling off or paint pileup.
D, The galvanized layer surface is dense and uniform and free from the defects of exposed base, yellowy, scorched.
(3) Installation
Generally, the semi-circle lock is installed in middle of the window sash. The lock seat is installed on the left sash and hook on the right. The window sash is opened/close dor locked by rotating the handle.
After installation, the strike plate should be rotated flexibly and has accurate and reliable closing/opening positions, free from any obstruction. During actual installation, it is recommended to adopt American-style semi-circle lock in case that the sliding sashes rub with each other due to inappropriate selection of semi-circle locks on some sliding doors or windows.
3, Sliding window¡¯s windbreaking block and buffer block
(1) Windbreaking block
A windbreaking block is also called as wind shield block or wind baffle, which is installed on the sliding windows and doors of sash-enclosing-frame structure. Since there is a space on the upper and lower frame at middle of the door and window frame where two sashes overlap and also the space between the groove bottom of two rails of the door and window frame, they form a passage for indoor and outdoor air circulation and affect the window¡¯s tightness. Therefore, a windbreaking block is installed at this position to obstruct the passage so that the window will not lose the tightness.
The shape and dimension of windbreaking block is determined based on the clearance between a frame and sash. Moreover, the block should have at least two sealing strips with a suitable length. Hence, it will not affect the sliding door and window¡¯s sealing property and their flexible operation.
(2) Buffer block
A buffer block is installed inside the groove of the structural member that overlaps with the door and window frame at one side of the sliding window and door sash, which is used to buffer the fierce collision between frames and sashes when sliding the door and window sash and also controls the designed overlap between the frame and sash. The buffer block is generally made of rubber and each structural member has two blocks, which is 100-150mm from upper and lower ends of the sash, Generally, one should take the designed overlap between the frame and sash into consideration when choosing buffer blocks, The buffer block is shown in figure 1-24.

No matter casement or sliding windows and doors, the selection and use of hardware must comply with the dimensional standard of the hardware mounting groove on the profile as well as the design requirement on door and window mode and performance. All UPVC windows and doors, one installed with hardware, must reach the requirements in JG/T 3017 and 3018. The hardware accessory should have correct mounting position, be complete in quantity and securely installed. All screws must be mounted at one time. Disassembly by multiple times is not allowed. The hardware accessories should be opened and closed flexibly and have enough strength to satisfy the requirements on windows¡¯ mechanical performance. The parts that have reciprocal actions should be convenient for maintenance on structural design.
